AMA FMF/GPR National Hare & Hound Championship Series

NHHA Round 5~Johnson Valley OHV

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This weekend in Southern California, the Vikings MC club will host their 27th Annual
"Virgin Voyage" in the Johnson Valley OHV area.  With temps predicted to be in the
mid-80's for the weekend, this will definitely be a bun warmer of a voyage!
The Vikings will be taking racers around their 3 loops of desert terrain totaling
almost 100 miles!  The first loop is 42 miles, the second loop is 40 miles, and
the third loop 14 miles.  Racers will ride through pit row two times, which makes
it more fun for the pit crews and spectators.  The banner drops this Sunday morning
at 9:00am!  Sign-ups will be open Saturday 1:00pm-6:00pm, Sunday 6:00am-8:45am.
The bomb run will be open for practice on Saturday afternoon 1:00pm-5:00pm and
again on Sunday 6:00am-8:45am.
Round 5 of the AMA National Youth Series will take place this Saturday, start time
11:00am!  Sign-ups will be Saturday from 9:00am-10:45am for all youth classes.
A mandatory rider's meeting will take place on the start line at 10:45am.  There
will be trophies and give-aways for the kids, including 2 pair of Kenda tires!
We'd like to thank District 37, Fasst Co, and Kenda for helping sponsor the kid's
events.  See attached race flyer for more info.
Round 4 was a brutal one for many racers, which kept the local Rescue 3 crew very
busy on race day.  JCR Honda's David Kamo would head into Round 4 in the points
lead, but after having a hard crash early on, Kamo was still able to finish but
now his points would drop him back to the 3rd Place Overall spot, now sitting 12
points behind new current leader, FMF/KTM's Kurt Caselli.  Kamo did suffer a break
on his scapula and will have to sit out this upcoming round.  Best wishes to him
for a speedy recovery!
Purvines Racing's T.J. Hannifin would have a great start and would lead the pack
down the bomb run, followed by Western Design's Tuffy Pearson, Blais Racing Services
Skyler Howes, Off Road Support's Jacob Argubright, and Caselli's two teammates,
KTM's Ivan Ramirez and Toby Price.  After this great battle for the lead position,
and about halfway through Loop 1, both Howes and Price would suffer severe crashes
almost in the same spot.  Howes would later be transported to the hospital suffering
a broken back (now in a brace for 6 weeks) with Price being transported by life-flight
with a broken neck to Palm Springs.  As of this week, Price was still awaiting surgery
and has been flown back home to Australia.  Best wishes to both of these riders
for a speedy recovery!
FMF/KTM's Kurt Caselli would settle into the lead spot later on, taking his time
and trying to stay on the ribbon.  With high winds all weekend, many of the course
markings had been blown down and were just gone.  Caselli stated he was just taking
his time and being patient and just riding his race.  He would cross the finish
line in 1st Place Overall, his second win this season and now the current points
leader.
Off Road Support's Jacob Argubright would also have a great day in the desert and
would have his best finish this season so far on his Kawasaki.  Argubright currently
sits 3 points behind Caselli going into Round 5 this weekend, both vying for that
#1 spot.
Purvines Racing's Nick Burson would also suffer a crash at Round 4, hurting his
knee pretty bad but still able to race and finish in the 4th Overall spot.  Burson
is having a great season so far on his Beta and currently sits in 4th Overall, 1
point behind David Kamo.
Western Designs Open A rider, Tuffy Pearson, would have a great race at Round 4
and would finish on top of the podium for his first time in the 3rd Overall spot!
Pearson currently leads his Open A class on his TM bike and sits in the Overall
spot in 5th Place, 10 points behind Burson.
