By Nick Blais:
Off to Pegasus hobbies to hit some outdoor racing. I showed up Friday after work for practice and it was almost time that they had closed the track! I only got one practice battery in before they had to finish up the track. I showed up on race day and got to run my Venom Batteries all the way down. The track was fun with one big triple right in front of the drivers stand. I chose a combination of Proline tires to use with M3 compound Holeshots on the 4wd cars and Tazers on the 2wd SC truck. My Proline Pro 2 truck and my set of Tekno vehicles were ready for racing with just a few little changes. A quick check over on the cars and I was ready. 1/8 scale was up first and I was able to put together a good run with my Tekno EB48 until my car would come to an abrupt stop off the straight away. The second qualifier I was going really fast with a dry track and was setting down the pace to beat but no one would even coming close, I was to come away with the TQ spot. Pro 2 qualifier came and I set down the pace to beat. I was passing through lappers the entire race and just had to wait and be patient for them to make mistakes and take their spots. In the second heat Frank Root would take the TQ away from me and I wouldn't be able to retaliate because we had the wet track and it was much harder to drive with the 2wd. In Pro 4 I had good heat races all day with the Tekno SCT410. It's too bad it was only worth a 5th place qualifying position for the main event. Race 9 1/8 scale buggy was off to a good start rounding the corners a little wide to avoid collisions. I was to keep it smooth for half the race until I was to make one mistake, letting David Jenson by. I was to pick up the pace and after a few racing battles, I was able to make the pass clean when he came up short in the corner double. Before I knew it I was pulling away and headed on to take the win. My Tekno EB48 was dialed all day and all I had to do was turn it on to get the win. | 1/8 Scale Buggy at Pegasus Hobbies Round 5 2013 Top Notch Summer Series |
Race 11 Pro 2 was off and running and Frank Root told me he wasn't going for the triple so I decided I wasn't going to do it either, that was a big mistake...David Jenson came flying right over me and from that point on it was a full on brawl between 2nd-5th . From that point on I was going for the triple even though the wind was blowing pretty good. After fighting for position I was able to break away a little to run away towards the end of the race but I just couldn't catch Frank as he was to check out early on. I was still able to put the Proline Pro 2 truck up on the box. I have already wrapped up the series in Pro 2 with three 1st place finishes. Just racing for some good fun now! | Pro 2 A Main at Pegasus Hobbies Round 5 2013 Top Notch Summer Series |
Race 19 Pro 4 I was off to a smooth start and just trying to stay in tow with the pack, early on I was able to get into third and right after make a lame mistake to put me back two spots. I made up one spot with everyone flipping off the triple jump as there was a bad spot right in the middle. For the rest of the race I was just trying to catch 3rd place to make 3 podiums for the day but I just couldn't figure out the triple jump as my truck kept nose diving and sending me flipping. If It wasn't for that I would have been right there. The leaders were coming up to lap me but I was able to hold their pace for a few minutes before the triple got me again and had to scoot over and let them by. I was to come away with a 4th place finish after all that. Another Top Notch race down in the history books! One more to go! I was to come away with a 1st and 2nd for the weekend. Not bad for racing three classes for the day. Big thanks to Blais Racing Services, Coyote Hobbies, Proline, Venom, Tekno, and Tekin. It wouldn't be possible without family and the best in RC products out there. Hope to see you out there next time. Top Notch has been stepping up their game with many of the best races out there pulling 20-30 races each event. With Notch himself running all the announcing this series. Looking forward to the Series finale at IERC raceway. | Pro 4 A Main at Pegasus Hobbies Round 5 2013 Top Notch Summer Series |
