Top Notch Series Round 5

February 23, 2013

IERC Raceway

By Chris Blais:

IERC Raceway would be the 5th stop for the Top Notch Racing Series for 2013.  There
would end up being about 250 race entries for the weekend.  I arrived on Friday
to practice and loved the track layout.  It was slow, twisty, and flowing just how
I like it.  I got in plenty of practice and had my Pro 4 truck, 1/8 Scale and Associated
B44.2 buggy dialed in.  We decided to camp out in our trailer at the track on Friday
night and got up early Saturday to get ready to race.  In Pro 4 I took the early
TQ and held on to it all night.  In the main event I got away from the pack and
ran away with the win.

Next up was the Open 4x4 buggy which I was able to qualify 2nd just behind Wayne
Wyrick.  In the main it would be a 3 way battle the entire race but I would end
up getting the win with only one small mistake.  My Coyote Hobbies B44.2 was dialed
in with my Proline Ion's, Venom batteries, and Tekin Power.

I had a great race in 1/8 scale all night.  I would end up with the TQ by less than
one second over local racer Brian Sullivan.  Brian and I would have a great race
in the main until I clipped a crashed car in a blind spot on the far end of the
track.  After that Brian checked out and I had to settle for second place.

I had a great time this weekend and great results.  Next week I am putting my new
Tekno EB48 and SCT410 together to get ready for JBRL Round 1 at OCRC.  Thank you
to all our sponsors for the awesom products.  Blais Racing Services is also now
a proud dealer for all Venom/ Atomik products.  Check out our Website

By Nick Blais:

On Friday I would normally go get some practice at the track but I decided to stay
home and get my new Tekno vehicles together.  Before I knew it, I looked at the
clock and it was 1:30 Saturday morning.  After waking up at 5:30 and heading to
the track I had three new cars to try out.  My proline pro 2 conversion, my Tekno
EB48, and Tekno SCT410. Arriving at the track the Blais racing crew had the pit
spots handled and I noticed it was freezing in the building but the track looked
sweet.  The layout was really fun, and after getting about two batteries on each
of my cars before the races I was ready to go.  Proline Ion tires were the choice
with venom batteries powering Tekin electronics.

Qualifying went pretty smooth for having so many new cars.  I ran the Tekno cars
box stock set up with my electronics and it was dialed.  I missed the TQ in pro
4wd SC by a half a second in the first qualifier.  Pro 2wd SC went smooth with
making a few traction mistakes I was able to just squeak in the TQ run.  My 1/8
was dialed and I was able to pull a third place finish.  In the second qualifier
everything pretty much stayed the same except for David taking my TQ pace away
in pro 2.  Well at least until I got up there the next race and ran 3 seconds faster
than his TQ pace. I knew it was going to be a fun main event.

Pro 4 main was the first to come and it off before we knew it and before the second
lap was over things started to change very fast.  I got into second and then I rolled
it and positions started to swap very fast with my brother just running away with
the win and I ended up placing 3rd with the new Tekno SCT410.

Pro 2 came a while after but when the start tone went off it was nice to start in
the front of the pack for a change.  Smooth and flowing through the first turn I
started to pull away after the first lap and then put it in cruise control way
to early as second was starting to catch and thin I was to make a mistake and pretty
soon I was racing just to place.  It was pretty close for a few laps there and getting
into second starting to battle for the lead we would start bumping and rubbing for
the lead all in clean fun.  He would make a mistake and jump off the side of the
course and from that point I was to put my head down and start to pull a good lead
taking the win!

1/8 scale was to come up the race after pro 2 so I was still a little pumped up
and that was to show in this race.  Had a good smooth start with the car behind
me getting by and had to follow him for the next lap before getting by clean and
started chasing the leaders.  It was a good battle for 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  After
trying to get away from the mix David was pressuring me into driving faster and
we were to battle till the end until he crashed and I was to have a safe last lap
finishing 3rd.

This was my best three overall finishes for the day so I was happy about that.
I'm just a little bummed when I wait all day and the races that I am in are back
to back.  It is hard to keep focus from one race to another especially when u race
a SC truck to racing a super fast 1/8 scale.  Anyway one more race for me in this
series being that I will miss the next one at Redland hobbies.

Time to get ready for JBRL.  I would like to especially thank www.prolineracing.com
for the awesome pro 2 truck, tires , and sweet flo tek bodies.  If you want a innovative
rc vehicle that you can drive box stock to a win, check out www.teknorc.com .
Thanks to www.coyotehobbiesraceway.com for the awesome practice track, www.teamtekin.com
electronics and www.venom-group.com batteries to keep me powered up through all
my racing.  Last but not least my family www.blaisracingservices.com  for all the
help and where you can pick up you motorcycle needs and rc components!
